James Frankenfield has always had a passion for art. Early on, his love of photography led him to take classes at the Barnstone Studio to improve his eye for composition and design. Art, though, tended to remain on the back burner as he earned a living as a carpenter and millwright. After retiring, he started taking jewelry classes at the Baum School of Art.

James has always enjoyed working with wood and started working at the Woodcraft Store in Allentown where he learned how to turn wood on the lathe from Ed Youtz and Bill Grumbine. He prefers to use exotic woods with a clear finish to let the natural beauty of the wood grain and color show. Occasionally he will use diluted dye stain on certain woods to help make the grain pop.

He is a member of the Lehigh Valley Woodworkers Guild and the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen.
