Denise Tempest began designing jewelry from precious metal clay (PMC). However, her interest in creating jewelry made from Kazuri beads from Kenya was sparked when she discovered the story behind this African Fair Trade business. Designing and selling Kazuri bead jewelry fulfilled Denise’s desire to help women in third world countries improve their lives and support their families. As she works with the vibrant colored and patterned beads handmade by these woman from the clay of Mt. Kenya in Nairobi, Denise feels a connection to the women employed by the workshops. It is her dream to visit a workshop someday and meet the Kenyan women.
Denise graduated from Kutztown State College and Lehigh University with a B.S. and M.Ed., respectively, in education. She enjoys her volunteer work on a local arts commission. |
