Joan Nelson spent 32 years in the corporate business world. Now she is free to indulge her passion to create! Most of her life she has participated in the love and the creation of fine art. Fundamentally, she is a realist. First in intaglio etchings, then painting and now the metalsmithing processes. Metal is now her canvas, working in silver and gold with semi-precious stones. Joan’s designs formulate from the shape of the stones or gems, exploring depth, light, texture and functionality. She creates the vision, then improves on the functional vision to create wearable art because she believes jewelry must be functional. Joan feels it is incredibly rewarding when an individual enjoys wearing one of her designs.
Joan Nelson’s jewelry is exhibited in Bethlehem, Glen Mills and Haverford, Pennsylvania. Her work has also been shown recently at the Delaware Art Museum. She has four years of art training at the Atlanta College of Art and the University of Georgia with a BS degree in business from LaSalle University. |
